Hey! I'm Mark

I have a degree in French Studies from the University of Warwick and I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1998.  I started my post-qualification career at The Financial Times and then spent a very happy and formative 15 years at Penguin Books, eventually becoming Head of Commercial Finance & Strategy, working with amazing talent such as Jamie Oliver, Nick Hornby, Marian Keyes & Dawn French. From there I went to Simon & Schuster, the book publishing part of CBS, as Finance Director – I was particularly excited to work with Bruce Springsteen and John Lydon on their autobiographies whilst there. After that, I was CFO at Playstack – a video games developer and publisher – for four years before joining Dovetail. I talk far too much about the similarities and differences of book and video game publishing.

Outside of work, I live in Richmond with my wife and two sons. I spend a lot of time taking the boys to play sport and produce art. I have an obsession with Iceland that has led me to have a second job, working in a record store and bar in Reykjavik for a few days every year. In my spare time you’ll generally find me watching live music or live sport with family and friends, or American sports from the sofa. I offset my natural optimism and positivity by supporting Queens Park Rangers.
